Library 2015/10/12 (2)ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION DATE/TIME Euclid Library October 12, 2015 1340 S. Euclid 6:30 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92802 CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on October 6, 2015, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Heywood at 6:37 p.m. PRESENT: Linda Esping, David Robert "DR." Heywood, Stan Oftelie, Kenneth Shimogawa ABSENT: Michelle Majewski STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Thomas Edelblute, Senior Library Services Manager, Joe Purtell, Supervising Librarian, Emily Otis, Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary GUESTS: Helen Carter, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The next book sale is Saturday, December 5. All types of media are needed, especially paperbacks, DVDs, and CDs. Their annual meeting will be held on November 23, 2015 and Rick Brown will be presenting his photos from Africa. The Friends will be voting to give $5,000 for furniture for the Euclid/Sunkist Libraries Renovation. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Officers have been elected for 2015/16: Betsy Kasten - President, Louise Fry - Vice -President, Donna Clark - Treasurer, Kris Lasher - Secretary, Larry Rushing - Book Sales and Barbara Rosen- Membership. FOCAL is celebrating Friends of the Library Week, October 18-24 with a display of pictures of FOCAL AT WORK on display. The upcoming book sale date has been changed to December 14-19. FOCAL members include: 21 Lifetime members, 8 Business/Patron members and 30 Active members for a total of 59 members. The next meeting will be held on November 19`h in the MPR at Canyon Hills Library. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation will fund $50,000 for furniture for the Euclid/Sunkist Renovation. In addition. Dr. June Glenn secured $5,000 in funding from the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim for the Euclid/Sunkist furnishings. The Foundation will have a GoFundMe page to assist in fundraising for furniture for the Renovations. D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None. E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. APPROVAL OF THE POLICY FOR WITHDRAWL OF LIBRARY MATERIALS: MOTION: That the Board approve the Policy for Withdrawal of Library Materials as presented. M/S: SOLE 4 Ayes B. APPROVAL OF THE POLICY FOR LIBRARY MATERIALS DONATIONS: MOTION: That the Board approve the Policy for Library Materials Donations as presented. VIDEO GAME COLLECTION: Emily Otis shared the parameters used in selecting video games for a video game rental collection that is being beta -tested for six months at Central Library. B. ANAYSIS OF BOOK COLLECTION, FUNDS, TRENDS, ETC.: Joe Purtell described the methods used in the weeding of the collection as well as what the trends are in collection development. C. CHANGE TIME OF LIBRARY BOARD MEETINGS FROM 6:30 P.M. TO 5:00 P.M.: This item is postponed so that all members of the Board may give input on the time change. D. CANCELLATION OF NOVEMBER LIBRARY BOARD MEETING: The November Library Board Meeting is cancelled to allow staff to attend the California Library Association Conference. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • Anaheim Public Library is once again partnering with the Anaheim Public Utilities Department. Utilities donated $1,500 to the Library to purchase books on water saving and the Library will offer water -wise educational programs. • The LED partnership with the Anaheim Public Utilities is sun setting. Thanks to this partnership, over 5,000 bulbs were distributed to Anaheim residents which will and save 300,000 kWh per year and Anaheim Public Library has 676 new library card holders. • Audrey thanked Stan Oftelie for volunteering to be the moderator of the Anaheim Reads Detective Panel on February 20, 2016. • Linda Esping and Stan Oftelie will serve as judges for the Altrusa Creative Writing Contest at Ponderosa Elementary School. • Project ACES is being streamlined to eliminate the paperwork involved with getting students their Anaheim Public Library card computer cards. B. BUDGET: No update. C. PUBLICITY: Included in the packet. D. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: The State Library is surveying libraries as to their needs. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A.
