Broadway 5:00 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92805 CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted at 11:00 a.m. on September 6, 2016, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Heywood at 5:00 p.m. PRESENT: Linda Esping, David Robert "DR." Heywood, David Laviguer, Michelle Majewski, Stan Oftelie STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Thomas Edelblute, Senior Library Services Manager, Jennifer Foxx, PT Senior Secretary GUESTS: Helen Carter, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library, Betsy Kasten and Kris Lasher, Friends of the Canyon Hills Library, Joan Pettite, Anaheim Public Library Foundation L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. INTRODUCTION OF DONALD HILLARD, JR., LIBRARY TECHNOGLOY SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: Audrey introduced the new Full -Time Library Technology Systems Administrator, Donald Hillard, Jr. B. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The next Multi -Media Sale will be December 3, 2016. Library staff member, Lori Shensky, has been wonderful about designing posters, distributing them, and posting them on the web. The Friends credit her help with publicity for the success of the August sale. The Friends voted at their last meeting to support Teen programing and materials in the amount of $6,500. C. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY REPORT: Betsy introduced Kris Lasher incoming FOCAL President. Their August Book Sale was very successful. One of FOCAL's members continues to add information to the Library's website and is also using the Facebook Group Anaheim Hills Buzz to advertise events like the Book Sale. FOCAL voted to extend the Textbook Scholarship program from East Region to staff members and volunteers at all Anaheim Libraries. A Ride -Along on the Bookmobile is planned and FOCAL hopes to donate some children's books to give away to the children who use the Bookmobile. Their slate of officers for 2016-17 are: President - Kris Lasher, Vice -President - Cindy Guziak, Secretary - Karen Lockwood, Treasurer - Berdella Smith, Membership - Louise Fry, and Book Sales - Larry Rushing. Chairmanships: Textbook Scholarships - Barbara Rosen & Berdella Smith, Publicity - Peggy Markson, and Vintage Books - Betsy Kasten. The next FOCAL meeting will be on November 17, 2016 in the MPR at Canyon Hills Library. The Board recognized Betsy Kasten for her contributions to the Library during her years as President. D. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Joan Pettite, Treasurer, reported that the Foundation welcomed three new Board Members. The Foundation will continue to sponsor eBooks for one more year. They are in the process of updating their website. The Foundation is working to find authors and a theme for the 2017 Mystery Authors Luncheon. E. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None. F. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2015/16 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: MOTION: That the Library Board approve the Report to City Council on the condition of the libraries as presented for Fiscal Year for 2015/16 per the Anaheim Municipal Code, ARTICLE IX APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS. MM/LE 5 ayes. IV. NEW BUSINESS —None. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • Audrey shared the tentative Grand Opening Dates: Euclid Library, Monday, October 24, at 3:00 p.m. and Sunkist Library on Tuesday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. • The Haskett Library parking lot will be restriped next year. • Staff met with the Anaheim Elementary School District to begin working out details to offer ACES to grades three and up. • Regina Powers, Anaheim Union High School District, was nominated by Library staff and selected to receive the 2016 California Public Library Advocate Award. • The plan for the Central Library greenspace is being worked on. • The Library is hosting their very first Indic Author Day on Saturday, October 8, 2016. • Audrey thanked Stan Oftelie and Linda Esping for volunteering to be judges for the Altrusa Creative Writing Contest. • The Library is offering Peanuts -themed library cards for Library Card Sign-up Month. • The Central Library will be closing early to accommodate the Fall Festival Halloween Parade on October 29, 2016. • The Developer Fee impact study is nearing completion. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board recognized Sandra Sagert from Code Enforcement for her assistance to the Library over the years, including assisting in the resolution to Euclid Library's graffiti problem and Bookmobile's visibility issues in neighborhoods. VIII. BOARD ITEMS VICE CHAIR, STAN OFTELIE: Attended the first few minutes of the second session of the Citizenship Classes the Library is offering and he was disappointed to see a drop-off in attendance from the first session to the second session, but he is still proud the Library is offering this valuable program. DAVID LAVIGUER: Attended Disney's Endless Summer Event at Boysen Park. He appreciated seeing the Library's participation at the event and enjoyed assisting the children in making paper airplanes.
