Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES DATE/TIME January 8, 2018 2017 5:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on January 4, 2018, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 5:10 p.m. PRESENT: Rose Chen, David Laviguer, Stan Oftelie, Claudia Perez -Figueroa ABSENT: John Leos STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Management Assistant L INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A, FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Audrey stated that the Friends have approved their 2018 Library Budget. This budget allocates money to the Library to support library programs and supplies. The Library is very appreciative of their continued support. 13. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: FOCAL continues to appreciate plentiful donations from their generous community. During 2018 they plan to host three book sales. The Rushing to Read Book Corner inventory is updated almost daily. A project of interest for the upcoming year is the continued effort to create a reading garden and assembly area. The next FOCAL Meeting will be Thursday, January 18, 2018, at 10:00 in the Multipurpose Room of Canyon Hills Library. C, ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Anaheim Public Library Foundation is proud to sponsor an author event with Christopher Lentz on Monday February 5, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the MPR of the Central Library. Mr. Lentz will discuss his Blossom series as well as an up and coming book entitled My Friend Marilyn. Invitations have been mailed for the Mystery Authors Luncheon for April 15, 2018. Book bags are for sale at almost all Anaheim Public Library locations. D,. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None. E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. IL APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 11, 2017: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A, LIBRARY RULES OF CONDUCT: The City Attorney's Office is reviewing the possibility of having the Rules of Conduct made into an Ordinance that will also apply to other Community Services facilities that directly serve the public. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A, LIBRARY PROGRAMMING POLICY: The Board requested clarification on assistive devices that may be needed for patrons attending a program and if there is a cost associated. MOTION: That the Board approve the Library Programming Policy with clarification on availability and costs of assistive devices. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • The Capital Projects report will reflect where the funds are budgeted for each project. • Staff will schedule a presentation at a future Library Board meeting on the updated plans for the Central Green Space and the Reading Garden at the Canyon Hills Library. • The Library is partnering with the Anaheim Police Department to create a Public Safety Leadership Library that will feature a collection of mentoring materials. The materials will be obtained by the Police Department. These collections will be at the Central Library and the East Anaheim Library. Library card applications will be distributed to Police Department staff. • Tony Lam will coordinate the next NEA Big Read. • Audrey shared the information on Central's Book Club for Adults and thanked Tony Lam and Sarah Emmerson for reinstating it. B. BUDGET: The budget process has begun. C,. MARKETING: Chloe will provide an update at the February meeting. D,. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: None. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: Included in packet. B, ACTIVITY REPORTS: Included in packet. VII. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None. MEMBER CLAUDIA PEREZ-FIGUEROA: Invited everyone to attend the 2nd Annual Women's March on January 20' in downtown Santa Ana. MEMBER ROSE CHEN: None. VICE CHAIR, STAN OFTELIE: The Poet Laureate committee will be submitting their rankings of the candidates. CHAIR DAVID LAVIGUER: Requested to know the percentage of patrons who owe overdue fines and/or late materials who are not Anaheim residents. VIII. MISCELLANEOUS A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be February 12, 2018 at the Sunkist Library. B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 6:15 p.m.
