Library 2018/05/14ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION DATE/TIME Haskett Library May 14, 2018 2650 W. Broadway 5:00 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92804 CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on May 10, 2018, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 5:05 p.m. PRESENT: David Laviguer, Stan Oftelie, Claudia Perez -Figueroa ABSENT: Rose Chen, John Leos STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx, PT Management Assistant, Guadalupe Gomez, Library Services Manager, Nissa Perez -Montoya, Principal Librarian GUESTS: Helen Carter, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library, Ginny Gardner, Anaheim Public Library Foundation I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Book Nook continues to do well and donations are always welcome. The next multi -media sale is Saturday, June 2nd. Nancy Carlberg and Diane Sargent represented the Friends at the WAND BBQ on April 21,, 2018. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Their April book sale was a big success. The teen volunteers were tremendously helpful to FOCAL members managing the event. Management of their inventory for selling is a key focus of FOCAL this month. They are grateful to our community for ongoing generous book donations. The next FOCAL meeting will be Thursday May 17, 2018, 9:30 a.m. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: They are very excited to hear the funding wish list from Library staff at their next meeting on May 17th. The Mystery Authors Luncheon raised over $32,000. In addition, H & R Block will be donating over $5,000. Next year's Luncheon will be held on April 14,, 2019. D. UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: Guadalupe Gomez shared upcoming programs at the Haskett and Ponderosa Libraries. Ponderosa received a $10,000 grant to create a Makerspace and a $5,000 Learning Lab Grant for Haskett and Ponderosa Libraries for cultural programming. City of Anaheim employees participated in an Employees Give Back Day and Haskett Library was one of the sites where the volunteers painted, planted, etc. E. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 9, 2018: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. LIBRARY RULES OF CONDUCT: The City Attorney's Office is reviewing the possibility of having the Rules of Conduct made into an Ordinance that will also apply to other Community Services facilities that directly serve the public. WORKING OFF LIBRARY FINES: Nissa Perez -Montoya reported that this had been unsuccessful in the past due to lack of staffing to properly implement this project. With less staffing available this is not feasible at this time. B. CHILDREN BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES: Nissa addressed the Library Board's questions regarding the Guidelines. C. SUMMER READING PROGRAM PREVIEW: Nissa presented on the 2018 Summer Reading Program — Reading Takes You Everywhere! Audrey thanked the Friends of the Library for sponsoring the children's performers and the Anaheim Public Library Foundation for the teen performers that are scheduled during the Summer Reading Program. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • The Capital Projects budget was discussed. • Project ACES with Placentia -Linda School District is on hold as the Placentia Library District may be pursuing a Project ACES of their own. B. BUDGET: Supplemental requests for funding for part-time staff have been submitted. C. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: None. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: Included in packet. B. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Guadalupe Gomez was recognized for securing the Makerspace and Learning Lab Grants for Haskett and Ponderosa Joint -Use Libraries. VIII. BOARD ITEMS MEMBER CLAUDIA PEREZ-FIGUEROA: None. VICE CHAIR, STAN OFTELIE: None. CHAIR DAVID LAVIGUER: None. A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be June 11, 2018 at the Canyon Hills Library. B.
