Golf 2007/05/24COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: CITY STAFF PRESENT: CITY STAFF ABSENT: VALLEY CREST PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES May 24, 2007 — 5:00 p.m. 4th Floor, Conference Room 1 Chairman John McCulloch Vice Chairman Bud Schultz Commissioner Patty Gaby Commissioner Kathy Wright Commissioner Skip Keys Michael Lautenbach, Dave Johansen, Bob Johns, and Linda Harrah Eleanor Granflor Kevin Neal, Golf Course Superintendent Chairman McCulloch called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. PUBLIC COMMENTS — None APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Vice Chairman Schultz made a Motion, to accept the Golf Commission Meeting Minutes of April 26, 2007. Corrections to be made were brought up by Commissioner Wright regarding the report of the Golf Course Superintendent. There were no questions asked or answered at the April meeting. Commissioner Wright seconded the motion to approve April Minutes with the corrections written in. Motion passed. Minutes will be corrected. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. Golf Superintendent Update Michael Lautenbach presented his report and answered questions. Michael Lautenbach discussed the new Point -of -Sale system. Installation is scheduled for the week of June 18th. The fiber optic cables will be installed at Anaheim Hills Golf course by June 8th and new switches will be arriving by August. The existing service with Tele Pacific will be upgraded to get more bandwidth for the new system to be installed. B. Golf Course Superintendent Dave Johansen presented his report and answered questions. Vice Chairman Schultz brought up the diminishing turf condition behind #11 green at Anaheim Hills Golf Course. Michael Lautenbach stated that this area will be looked at. C. Director of Golf Bob Johns presented his report. There were no questions asked. GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES May 24, 2007 Page Two FINANCIAL REPORT Michael Lautenbach reported April was a good month for both golf courses. He reported the number of rounds, green fee revenues, range revenues and restaurant revenues increased at both golf courses. OLD BUSINESS Michael Lautenbach discussed the capital improvements for both golf courses. He discussed the tree trimming for both golf courses. Bids will not go out until July since the Purchasing department is currently working on year end projects. The goal is still for the majority, if not all, the trees to be trimmed at Dad Miller Golf Course. Michael Lautenbach discussed the remodel at Dad Miller Clubhouse. Bids for this project will not go out until July. Michael Lautenbach discussed the short game facilities at Anaheim Hills Golf Course. The golf course architect provided cost estimates for the planning and construction which are a lot higher than what has been budgeted. Vice Chairman Schultz suggested researching other options and requested to put this item on the agenda for the June Golf Commission meeting. Michael Lautenbach agreed to further discuss the short game facility next month. Commissioner Gaby discussed the championship. Michael Lautenbach stated that it went well. NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Wright requested the item of Senior Rates at Dad Miller Golf Course, in regards to walk-on rates versus reserved tee times, be put on the agenda for the June Golf Commission meeting. Commissioner Keys discussed the issue of fishing for golf balls. He would like to see the rule of no fishing for golf balls be posted somewhere on the golf course. Commissioner Gaby suggested that the starter could address that issue on the 1 st tee. Michael Lautenbach stated he will include that at the next Player Assistant meeting. Vice Chairman Schultz discussed dying the color of the lakes. Kevin Neal, Valley Crest, stated that it is not possible since the lake at Dad Miller Golf Course is used for irrigation of the golf course, and the stream at Anaheim Hills Golf Course goes off the golf course property. Michael Lautenbach discussed the June Golf Commission outing. The Golf Commission meeting will be held at Dad Miller Golf Course at 10:00 a.m. and the outing will begin at 11:00 a.m. Michael Lautenbach discussed the Golf Commissioners terms. He stated the term is up for Commissioner Gaby, Vice Chairman Schultz, and Commissioner Keys on June 30, 2007. The City Clerk is in the process of sending out letters regarding the end of the term. GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES May 24, 2007 Page Three Commissioner Keys discussed the issue of irrigation problems at Anaheim Hills Golf Course. Kevin Neal, Valley Crest, stated that the lines were clogged by small pieces of clams coming from the reservoir. A new filter was just installed and the irrigation lines will be flushed over the next couple of weeks. Vice Chairman Schultz discussed the sprinklers turning on in the middle of a tournament. Michael Lautenbach stated he will look into it. Commissioner Keys discussed the closing time of the snack bar and main restaurant on weekdays. He stated the snack bar has been closing as early as 3:20 p.m. Commissioner Keys also stated that during weddings, it has been taking as long as 15 minutes to get their food. Michael Lautenbach will look into the closing time of the snack bar and the main restaurant. ADJOURNMENT Chairman McCulloch made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Wright, to adjourn the meeting to June 28, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., Dad Miller Golf Course. The Motion passed. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
