A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM OPPOSING THE APPLICATION OF THE
SANTA FE ~%ILROAD TO REDUCE PASSENGER SERVICE
BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAN DIEGO.
WHEREAS, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway
Company provides passenger service between San Diego and
Los Angeles; an~J
I?~EREAS, the Santa Fe Railroad has scheduled five (5)
trains daily in each direction; and
~'~ERm~o,~'° these trains pass through Anaheim and other
Orange County communities; and
%.~EREAS, the present train schedule permits people
to commute between Anaheim and Los Angeles for business reasons;
and
%~EREAS, the Santa Fe Railroad has filed an appli-
cation with the California Public Utilities Commission to
reduce its passenger service between San Diego and Los Angeles
from five (5) to two (2) trains daily in each direction; and
k~IEREAS, the proposed reduction in passenger service,
i~! granted, will eliminate a portion of the public transporta-
tion which is presently available in Anaheim and Orange County;
and
~EREAS, the population is increasing in Anaheim
and Orange County, thereby increasing the need for public
transportation.
~OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that it opposes the application of the
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad before the California
Public Utilities Commission to reduce passenger service bet-
ween Los Angeles and San Diego.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Anaheim that the City will co-operate with the Santa
Fe Railroad for the purpose of increasing the number of
passengers taking trains from Anaheim.
