Appeal from action taken by the City Planning Co,wnission was filed by Mr. Robertson and Public Hearing ordered. Petition signed by 8 residents in the immediate vicinity of the proposed Insurance Office opposing the granting of the variance and setting forth their reasons was submitted and read. Communication from Mr. and Mrs. John H. Seale, residents and owners of property to the north.~ opposing the granting of the variance and setting forth their reasons was submitted and read. Petition signed by 9 residents urging the granting of the variance was submitted and .=cad. The Mayor asked if anyone wished to address the Council on the matter. Robertson addressed %he Council and outlined the proposed improvement which he intended to make of the residence, and answered questions asked of him by the City Council. He also called attention to the business use of properties in the in~nediate vicinity. This tract is located at the southeast corner of East Romneya Drive and North East Street. The City Planning Commission, pursuant to their Resolution No. 131, recom- mended said reclassification be denied° The Mayor asked if anyone wished to address the Council on the matter. Discussion was held and the people in the area did not oppose the reclassi- fication, but they requested that the multiple units on Briarwood Street be limited to one-story buildings and that the multiple units on North East Street be limited to two-story buildings. There being no further discussion, the Mayor declared the hearin9 closed. RF-SOLU/ION NO. 3177; CounciLman Fry offered Resolution No. 3177 and moved for its passage and adoption~ rezoning Lots 136 to 151~ inclusive in Tract No. 1820 tO R-3$ limiting one-story buildings to be erected on Lots 136 to 143 and two-story buildings to be on Lots 144 to 151~ and denying the balance of the request. RESOLUTION NO. 3179: Councilman Van ~agoner offered Resolution No. 3179 and moved for its passage and a~op%ion~ reclassif~ng to R~3 the four lots adjacent to the present multiple dwelling units and the balance of the tract to remain R-1. Ihe Mayor asked if anyone wished to address the Council on the matter, and discussion by the Council followed. It was considered that Subsection b., under "Residential Property," should read as follows: "All yards with pools must be enclosed with a fence of a minimum height of 5 fee%, except where a residence or garage wall may take the place of a fence Further, under the item o£ "Motels and Trailer Parks~ %hat Subsection b. be omitted in its entirety. There being no further discussion, the Mayor declared the hearing closed~ and the City Attorney was re~ested to prepare the necessary ordinance changing the section of the Municipal Code. VARIANCE NOo 467: Submitted by George D. Buccola requestin9 permission to erect a Medical Center on property described as North Loara Street, north of Crescent Avenue. Communication dated March 8, 1956 was submitted and read, informing the Council of the withdrawal o£ petition for the variance. RECLASSIFICATION HOc F~55~56=16: Submitted by Lido Construction Company requesting R=3 zoning on property described briefly as the west side of North Loara Street, south of Claredge Park Homes~ Verbal request for one month's extension to consider this reclassifica- tion was submitted~ however, as the time had expired for action on this reclassifi- cation~ the findings of the City Planning Commission were final. FINAL MAP, IRACT NO. 2573: Subdivider, Ford Investment Company. Located on Baxter Street~ so Jth of the Freeway. Holyoke, City Engineer, reported that ail bonds had been filed and necessary fees paid and recommended %he approval of said final map° Final Map of Tract No. 2855 was approved by the City Council subject to engineering requirements, on motion by ~ouncilman Van Wagoner~ seconded by Council= man Wisser. III APPLICATION BEFORE THE PUBLIC ~TILITIES COMMISSION: Application of Metropolitan Coach Lines for au'thority 'to re=route and r+-.schedule Line 58, Los Angeles=Santa Aha Motor Coach Line was submitted. REQUEST FOR DANCE PERMIT: Application submitted by William So MacTavish requesting permission to conduct Club Dances at 135~ West Center. Street was read. RecoF~nendations of %he Chief of Police regarding this request were also submitted and read. Discussion by the COuncil followed and Mro Turner advised that a public dance is one that is conducted for profit~ and a dancing academy is a place where there is no dancing other than the teaching of the stepso Mr o Ac We Sowder addressed 'the Council, opposing the granting of this dance permit and called attention to the previous damage experienced by the conduc= tion of dances there with reference to fire and water and the conditions of the entrances to the stores after the dances° A lady in the audience, owner of 'the apartments in the same building, substantiated the complaint regarding the unsightly condition of the entrances to their establishments after a dance is heldo There being no further discussion on the matter, Councilman Schutte moved the dance permit be denied° Councilman Wisser seconded the motion~ MOTION CARRIED.
