Anaheim Boulevard Anaheim, CA 92805 Re: Interim Mayoral Appointment Dear Members of the Anaheim City Council: I write this letter to you from New York City, where my wife, Lisa and I were vacationing and th expecting to be home in time for the June 8 Council Meeting. Unfortunately, Lisa has been diagnosed with COVID and has to be quarantined here on an extended stay. My goal was to be at the Council Meeting to speak with you publicly and convey my intentions with you in person. Instead, please accept this letter as my formal request to be considered for the Interim Mayoral Appointment. Please excuse the length of this letter, but I wanted to articulate the scope of my city involvement over my lifetime. As you may know, I have a deep and respectful commitment to our city and I have been an ardent “student” of Anaheim history and politics for almost 50 years. More importantly, I feel that I can make a valuable contribution to a new direction for our city. Given the circumstances and revelations of the last month, we are at a new “low watermark” of our city’s history in terms of the accusations, expected arrests and ongoing investigations by the FBI of impropriety. The City Council will need to have a new “face of leadership” moving forward, including one that will bring healing and stability back to our city; one that will bring integrity back to the dais and one that promises that “Anaheim First” really means that our city’s interests will be our paramount priority in all decisions affecting our city. We will need to foster new confidence to our electorate in everything we do because we can never forget who we work for. By way of background, my family moved to Anaheim in 1957 because my Mother and Father wanted to live “out in the country” amongst many orange groves, they rented a small 2- bedroom apartment on Broadway (near Manchester). Each night, my Father would walk my brother and I to the freeway overpass to watch the Disneyland fireworks. 1225 WEST LINCOLN AVENUE • ANAHEIM, CA 92805 • (714) 772-7000 • FAX (714) 772-3372 RESIDENTIAL • COMMERCIAL • INDUSTRIAL • INVESTMENT WWW.PAULKOTTREALTORS.COM Anaheim City Council C/O Theresa Bass Anaheim City Clerk June 6, 2022 Page 2 of 3 Sixty-five years have come and gone since those days, but what has never left is my love and passion for the finest city in Orange County…Anaheim. As a youngster, I was a paperboy for the Anaheim Bulletin (6 days a week), was Student Body President of my Jr. High School and graduated from Anaheim High School in 1972. Upon graduating from the University of Southern California, I decided to settle in my hometown, going into the real estate business in 1977. Since that time, I have poured myself into my community in every imaginable way. I married my wife Lisa in 1981 and we have raised our three children here in Anaheim. I have been involved in many civic and professional organizations including the following:  Anaheim Family YMCA Board Member (35 years)  Easter Seals of Southern California/Board Member (6 years)  KPC Health Anaheim Global Hospital/Board Member (5 years)  Anaheim Police Chief’s Advisory Board/Charter Member  Anaheim Fire Chief’s Advisory Board/Charter Member  Orange County Tax Assessment Appeals Hearing Officer (10 years)  Big Brothers of America/Volunteer  Halcyon/Anaheim Interfaith Homeless Shelter/Sponsor (10 years)  Anaheim Museum/Board Member  Anaheim Memorial Medical Center Foundation/Board Member  Anaheim Historical Society  Anaheim Historic Preservation Foundation/Board Member  Assistance League of Anaheim/Men’s Division  Anaheim Chamber of Commerce  Anaheim Arts Council  Anaheim Beautiful/Men’s Division  Anaheim Sister City Association/Mito Student Sponsor  Anaheim Redevelopment Commission  Anaheim Convention Center Authority  Anaheim Board of Realtors/President  California Association of Realtors Committee Chairman  California Association of Realtors Legal Expert Witness  Downtown Anaheim La Palma Little League-Manager/Coach (18 years)  Anaheim Citizen of the Year/Twice (1998 & 1999)  Anaheim Business Person of the Year (2011)  Hollywood’s Magic Castle/Lifetime Member Aside from these many affiliations and accolades, this year my wife and I are celebrating the th 40 Anniversary of our company, Paul Kott Realtors, Inc., which is one of the most successful Anaheim based real estate companies in our city’s history. I have a broad background in a variety of real estate matters including housing and land use issues which would be “second Anaheim City Council C/O Theresa Bass Anaheim City Clerk June 6, 2022 Page 3 of 3 nature” to me in terms of responsible and knowledgeable decision making at the Council level. I am continually looked to for opinions and judgements in matters related to my field both commercially and residentially. I am consensus builder across party lines and would always be focused on what I believe would be in the Anaheim’s best interest. I have no other political agenda and will not be using this position as a “stepping stone” for a higher political office. My only interest is to now lead our city in a new direction that will lead to sustainable prosperity as well as provide a new culture at City Hall away from the “play to pay system” that has toxically metastasized throughout our city. We are a large city with many “moving parts” and with these complexities, we will need a “steady hand” and strong leadership skills that will enable us to move our city in a solidly positive and ethical direction without any undue influence or distraction. We will need to engender new morale-building within the rank and file of all city staff members to re-instill the “Anaheim Pride” that once was the masthead of our reputation. There will be many decisions to be made in the next six months that will set the tone for the next four years. That “crossroad” is here, now, front and center as those decisions will have lasting impacts on our city for the next 50 years, consequently, we must be diligent and prudent moving forward. We would lead by educated consensus, make decisions that are transparent and strive to win back the confidence of our city’s residents, business owners, taxpayers, and shareholders. I believe that I would make a beneficial difference in my community and am anxious to meet those challenges and opportunities for our city. It would be my honor and privilege to join you and to add the quality of leadership skills now at the council level. I am always available to answer any questions or discuss this matter further. I look forward to your prompt and favorable response. In service to our great City of Anaheim I remain, Sincerely Yours, PAUL KOTT REALTORS, INC. Paul T.
