Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and are expecting the message. On February 28, 2023, the Anaheim City Council discussed to consider the following as it relates to the investigation and report: (i) amend or narrow the scope of work of JL Group, LLC; (ii) adjust or affirm the not-to-exceed contract amount with JL Group, LLC (currently at $750,000); (iii) possibly waive JL Group, LLC’s obligation to keep matters confidential to allow communications with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office; and/or (iv) provide any other direction as to the current investigation of former Mayor Harry Sidhu and the City Council regarding campaign contributions and potential Brown Act violations in the context of the facts alleged in the federal investigation(continued from the City Council meeting of February 7, 2023, Item No. 16).Item No. 24Discussion. MOTION:CL/AAto approve an increase to the agreement with JL Group, LLC to a not to exceed amount of$1.5 million, approval of the scope of work as presented by JL Group, LLC, with the requirement that JL Group, LLC submits detailed monthly written reports indicating the percentage of work complete to the City Council; and that JL Group, LLC refrains from speaking to the media as it relates to the investigation until the investigation is complete. ROLL CALL VOTE: 6-0-1(AYES: Mayor Aitken and Council Members Rubalcava, Diaz, Leon, Kurtz, and Meeks; ABSTAIN: Council Member Faessel). Motion carried. MOTION: NM/CLto approve a limited attorney client privilege waiver to allow the JL Group to share its investigation with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.ROLL CALL VOTE: 7-0. Motion carried. Today, May 2, 2023 a back-peddling of intent is evident. The city council, the city attorney, the city manager, the city clerk are all seemingly willing to even degrade the JL Group along with the retired Judge Smith, in an effort to blur the transparency and accountability of the investigation and report that is paid for with taxpayer funds. Keeping the public uninformed is the target of this action and I demand that the public be completely informed without prejudice and without omission of the truth regarding the complete findings as reported to the city by JL Group and Judge Smith. The legal firm of Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, representing the city, does not have the right to supersede or ignore the rights of the public and should NOT act to blur, dissolve, diminish, or delete ANY truths or findings of the report through the process of redactions, deletions, or by reporting misinformation. The corrupt actions of this council have to stop NOW! Vote to support the will of the people and not your self-serving agenda as a pay to play councilmember. There are many of the residents who are waiting, willing, and able to file suit should the vote and actions of this council are not found to be ethical and forthcoming for the good of the community. And by the way....our votes do matter. -- David L.
