Library 2021/01/11ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION DATE/TIME Central Library January 11, 2021 500 W. Broadway 4:00 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92805 CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on January 7, 2021, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:00 p.m. PRESENT:Rose Chen, Shelby Hogan, David Laviguer, Linda Newby, Stan Oftelie STAFF:Audrey Lujan, City Librarian; Jennifer Foxx, PT Management Assistant; Katrina Ford, Senior Librarian I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends of Anaheim Public Library will meet on January 25, 2021. While there will not be a multi-media sale, the Book Nook remains open and active. Heritage Services received complimentary copies of the book Orange County Memories as a thank you for the providing 115 photos from the Heritage Services Collection. Staff is researching how the Friends could sell these for these for $20.00 each (they retail for $44.95). B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: No report. C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation will host a fundraiser on January 25th. This will be an online event with award winning mystery author Catriona McPherson. Tickets are available on Eventbrite with an opportunity drawing at the end of the event. Tickets start at a minimum donation of $5.00 which includes one ticket for the opportunity drawing with prices increasing with additional tickets for the opportunity drawing. D.UNSCHEDULED ORAL COMMUNICATION: None E.WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 14, 2020 MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV.NEW BUSINESS: LIBRARY STEAM VAN: Katrina Ford presented on the grant funded Library STEAM Van that is scheduled for summer 2021. This Programming van will visit high-density and low-income areas throughout Anaheim, as well as libraries, schools, parks, partner organizations, festivals, etc. The Library will also be launching Expedition Live in February. Expedition Live is live programming that can be booked monthly for 5-20 elementary school-aged children. Supplies for the program will be available for pick-up at the Central Library. These programs are in addition to the STEAM-on-the-Go Kits and virtual STEAM programing that the Library began ITEM # 01 Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting January 11, 2021 Page 2 offering last year. Additional funding for STEAM programs has been provided by the Anaheim Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Anaheim Public Library, Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, and the Social Justice Brotherhood. The Library was also able to secure in-kind donations from Nevada Mineral and Book Company and NASA at My Library. V.INFORMATION A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Audrey encouraged Board Members to try the new Library Mobile App and provide feedback. The Library is requesting Community Development Block Grant funding to repair and restore the windows at the Carnegie Building. Cornelia Connelly School is donating a large collection of materials documenting their history from 1961-2020. B.BUDGET: Staff is working on budget projections for the end of FY 2020/21. Next fiscal year’s budget is in a holding pattern until March. VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS A.STATISTICS: The statistical format is being revised and should be available for the February Board Meeting. B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board recognized Mayor Pro Tem Stephen Faessel and his wife Susan Faessel. “Steve and Susan Faessel are the dynamic duo and have given much of their time, treasure, and talent to our Anaheim Public Libraries. Mayor Pro Tem Faessel and his wife have been very generous rounding up donations from toys to school supplies to distribute to the Bookmobile stops in District 5 on several occasions. He has participated in all our Bookmobile celebrations in District 5. They both have been long time strong supporters of our libraries. Steve has long been a volunteer researcher for APL and is the unofficial historian for our Anaheim Public Utilities Department. He has written a series of Anaheim history books and donated many over the years to our school-aged children. In 2002, Susan was appointed to the Library Board and served as chairperson for six of her seven years she served. During her terms, she was involved in the planning and completion of the remodeling of the Central Library, opening East Anaheim Branch, and reconstruction of both Haskett and Euclid Branches. She also served as President of the State of California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners. For these and many other reasons they have earned our recognition and appreciation on behalf of the Anaheim Public Library. The Board also recognized Librarian Mary Nuttelman upon her retirement after 38 years of dedicated service and Firefighter/Paramedic Francisco Mora for participating in a series of virtual programs promoting Anaheim Public Library’s collections and services. MEMBER ROSE CHEN: Requested to know if there is a timeline for Library staff to receive the COVID-19 Vaccination. VICE CHAIR STAN OFTELIE: None. CHAIR LAVIGUER: None. VIII.MISCELLANEOUS A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be February 8, 2021, at the Central Library. B.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 4:48 p.m.
