CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on April 8, 2021, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:00 p.m.
PRESENT: Rose Chen, Shelby Hogan, David Laviguer, Linda Newby
ABSENT: Stan Oftelie

I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: Nancy Carlberg is the new
President of the Friends. Helen Carter will stay on the Board as Corresponding Secretary.
Bonne Stevens will continue to serve as Treasurer and be Ambassador for occasions such as the
Community Services Volunteer Recognition. The Friends voted in their 2021 budget which was
revised from last year due to COVID-19. They allocated $250 for the Big Read Programs for
2021 and 2022. The Friends welcome donations to sell in the Book Nook. They voted to have
an ad in the Anaheim Public Library Foundation's Mystery Authors Luncheon Program. A
tribute in honor of Friends member Marcia Frazier, who passed away in January, is being
planned.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: No report.
ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation is pleased to
announce that they are moving forward as of now to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the
Mystery Authors Luncheon Sinister Shenanigans, on Sunday October 24, 2021. The guest panel
includes award winning authors Timothy Hallinan, Paige Shelton and Mike Befeler with award
winning mystery author Allison Brennan as guest moderator. Tickets go on sale in September
through Eventbrite.

D. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 8, 2021 MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.

IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. LIBRARY BOARD AD IN ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION'S MYSTERY
AUTHORS PROGRAM LUNCHEON: The Board will fund an inside cover advertisement for
the program.
B. EUCLID LIBRARY CAPITAL PROJECT: Thomas Edelblute presented the plans for the
outdoor area at Euclid Library. This project includes leveling out the area, complying with ADA
requirements, and making it a usable space for programming.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• The Central Project and Euclid Project will be going out to bid soon.
• A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is in place with Centralia School District for
Project ACES (A Card for Every Student). Staff is working with the Orange Unified School
District on their MOU.
B. BUDGET: Budget discussions will resume in May.

C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Shelby
recognized Linda Newby for her efforts in honoring outgoing Anaheim Public Library
Foundation President Ginny Gardner and outgoing Friends of the Anaheim Public Library
President Helen Carter.
