CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on August 5, 2021, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:06 p.m.
PRESENT: Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, David Laviguer, Linda Newby
ABSENT: Shelby Hogan
STAFF: Audrey Lujan, City Librarian; Jennifer Foxx, PT Management Assistant
INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. ADMINISTER OATH OF AFFIRMATION OF ALLEGIANCE FOR PUBLIC OFFICERS
AND EMPLOYEES TO MICHELLE DANG: The Oath of Affirmation of Allegiance for Public
Office and Employees was administered to Michelle Dang.
B. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends held a book sale on
June 25, 2021 and raised almost $300.00. The next sale will be August 20th from 11:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. The Friends will be buying a table for the Anaheim Public Library Foundation's
Mystery Author's Luncheon. Members of the Friends have enjoyed participating in the Library's
Summer Reading Program.
C. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Canyon Hills Library celebrated their 40th
Anniversary on July 12, 2021, in the Reading Garden. A popular activity was painting of
ceramic tiles which was sponsored by FOCAL. A mosaic of these tiles will be mounted for
Library patrons to view. FOCAL members and staff appreciate the Library's teen volunteers
who assisted with the Summer Reading Program.
D. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation continues to plan
for their 25th Mystery Authors Luncheon Sinister Shenanigans, on Sunday October 24, 2021.
Tickets will be on sale in September through Eventbrite. Invitations will be mailed this month.
They are in the middle of their membership drive and hope that each Library Board Member will
support the Foundation.

A. APPROVAL OF JUNE 14, 2021 MEETING MINUTES: The minutes were approved as
presented.

IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. LIBRARY BOARD CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION PRESENATION: The Board
presented a Certificate of Recognition to Audrey Lujan for making Anaheim Libraries the
example of the Anaheim Way and a resource of best practices State-wide.
B. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF
THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2020/21 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS
AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: A draft will be presented to the Board at the next
meeting.

A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• Billboards announcing that Anaheim Public Library is the National Library of the Year have
been put up near Library branches. They feature staff members that the families who
frequent the nearby branch will recognize from storytimes, etc. Light pole banners will be
going up soon.
• Participation in the Summer Reading increased from last year.
• A new Request for Proposal has to be created for the Central Green Space and Euclid outdoor
programming area due to an error in posting the original Request for Proposal.
• The ribbon cutting for the new STEAM Van is September 24, 2021.
• Founders' Park has reopened for tours on the first Saturday of each month.
B. BUDGET: A request has been made for additional funding to reopen the East Anaheim branch
three days a week.

MEMBER ROSE CHEN: None.
MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: Stated she will be advocating signing up to use the Library's
electronic resources with friends internationally.
MEMBER LINDA NEWBY: None.
CHAIR LAVIGUER: Welcomed Michelle to the Library Board.
VIII. MISCELLANEOUS
A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be September 13, 2021, at the Central Library.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 4:43 p.m.
