Library 2022/04/11ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION DATE/TIME Central Library April 11, 2022 500 W. Broadway 4:00 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92805 CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on April 7, 2022, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:02 p.m. PRESENT:Michelle Dang, David Laviguer, Linda Newby ABSENT:Rose Chen, Shelby Hogan STAFF:Thomas Edelblute, Senior Library Services Manager, Jennifer Foxx – PT Library Management Assistant, Chloe Van Stralendorff - Communications Specialist II | I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends were sorry to see Katrina Ford leave Anaheim Public Library. Their March book sale made $370.20. This year they have made over $1,000 in monthly books sales, this is in addition to what they make in the Book Nook which is open every day. The Friends are having a two-day sale on April 14th-15th from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose rooms. They are looking forward to sponsoring the Summer Reading Program. B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: The Friends of Canyon Hills Anaheim Library (FOCAL) successfully continue to sell collectible items online and at the Library. They are looking to expand their display capacity at Canyon Hills Library. The next Flash Sale will be on Thursday, April 14, from noon until 4:00 p.m. and Friday, April 15, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Their next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 19, 2022. C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 25th annual Mystery Author’s Luncheon is scheduled for April 24, 2022. Tickets are now available through Eventbrite and are $60 per person or $550 per table. D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MARCH 14, 2022 MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV.NEW BUSINESS: A.CITY OF ANAHEIM WEBSITE REDESIGN: Chloe Van Stralendorff presented the newly redesigned website. The Library’s homepage was redesigned to reduce user clicks and make it more user friendly. ITEM # 01 Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting April 11, 2022 Page 2 B.LIBRARY BOARD AGENDA FORMAT: The Library Board Agenda format has been revised to remove the Ex-Officio line. The City Clerk’s Office confirmed that this information was not required to be on the agenda per the City Charter or the Library Board Bylaws. C.LIBRARY BOARD MEETING SCHEDULE: The Board discussed changing the time of the meetings from 4:00 p.m. to a later time. MOTION: That the Board revisit changing the time of the Library Board Meetings to the July 11, 2022 meeting. M/S: MD/LN 3 Ayes. V.INFORMATION A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Staff is waiting for a timeline from the contractor to begin work on the Central Green Space and Euclid Programming Space. B.BUDGET: None. VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS A.STATISTICS: None. B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Linda recognized Police Sargent Jacob Gallacher, Investigator Rebecca Chemlay, Officer Alexander Iwan, and Officer Miguel Moyao for their outstanding work that led to the apprehension of the suspect who assaulted a library employee. Michelle recognized Thomas Edelblute for his outstanding contributions to the Library. VII.BOARD ITEMS MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: None. VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: None. CHAIR LAVIGUER: Acknowledged the Heritage Services staff for their outstanding work and congratulated Heritage Services for being nominated for an award for Society of California Archivists. VIII.MISCELLANEOUS A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be May 9, 2022, at the Central Library. Broadway 4:00 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92804 CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on May 5, 2022, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:07 p.m. PRESENT:Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan. David Laviguer, Linda Newby ABSENT:Rose Chen STAFF:Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx – PT Library Management Assistant, Cecilia Chavez – Library Assistant GUEST:Robert Hernandez | I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends are looking forward to sponsoring Summer Reading Programs. Their April Book Sale made $338. This sale was held in the Central Library MPR rather than the sidewalk in front of the Library. The Friends welcomed two new Board Members, Debi Patterson and Santo DiCamillo. B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: No report. C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 25th annual Mystery Author’s Luncheon was very successful with almost 300 in attendance. Plans for the 2023 Mystery Author’s Luncheon are underway. D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Robert Hernandez introduced himself as a member of the public to comment that he would like to see more Library hours of operation restored. II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 11, 2022 MEETING: The Board voted to amend the minutes to reflect that Shelby Hogan was present. III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV.NEW BUSINESS: A.BOOK TO ACTION PROGRAM: Cecilia Chavez, Library Assistant at Haskett Library presented the Book to Action Program. Cecilia was awarded this grant from the California State Library while she was a Part-Time Library Assistant and has been recently promoted to Full- Time Library Assistant. The grant provides funding for programs and books focusing on grief and mental wellness. The books chosen are “It’s OK that you’re NOT OK” for adults, “Dancing at the Pity Party” for teens and “Where do they go?” for children. All books will be available in English and Spanish. Programs include impact of COVID on grief, art journaling, yoga, and more. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting May 9, 2022 Page 2 V.INFORMATION A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Construction is expected to resume next week on the Central Green Space and Euclid Programming Space. Planning has begun to create a Makerspace and Recording Studio at Haskett Library. The Mother Colony House 165th Anniversary celebration will be held on June 4, 2022. CHAIR LAVIGUER: Reminded everyone that the Library is collecting school supplies for children in foster care.
