Library 2022/06/13ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION DATE/TIME Haskett Library June 13, 2022 2650 W. Broadway 4:00 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92804 CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on June 9, 2022, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Laviguer at 4:10 p.m. PRESENT:Rose Chen, David Laviguer, Linda Newby ABSENT:Michelle Dang, Shelby Hogan STAFF:Audrey Lujan, City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx – PT Library Management Assistant, Don Hilliard – Library Technology Systems Administrator, Jane Newell – Library Services Manager, Nichole Grimes – Senior Librarian | I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The May Book Sale made $200, even with the rain deterring some of their regular attendees. The Friends appreciated the help of their Board Members, Santo Di Camillo and Stephen Franklin. Their next sale is June 17, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Central Library. Former Treasurer Jennie Van Delden passed away at 103 years of age. Jennie served as Treasurer for 26 years and her daughter Bonne Stevens took over for her when she retired. The Friends of the Anaheim Public Library members volunteered 259 hours last month. B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: The Friends of Canyon Hills had a flash sale that made over $200. Special thanks to Louise Fry for spearheading the sale. C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Ginny Gardner is retiring from the Foundation Board. David Laviguer will continue to be President. Save the date for 26th annual Mystery Author’s Luncheon on Sunday, April 30, 2023. The Foundation welcomed Susan Faessel the APL Foundation Board. D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: Thank you cards to Canyon Hills Library for all of their hard work from Canyon High School Cards for Kindness Club and their National Honor Society Students were shared. A thank you letter to the Mobile Library staff for providing students with backpacks and school supplies was also shared. II.APPROVAL OF LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES: A.APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF APRIL 11, 2022 MEETING: Approved as presented. B.APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF MAY 9, 2022 MEETING: Approved as presented. III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. ITEM # 03 Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting June 13, 2022 Page 2 IV.NEW BUSINESS: A.RECOGNITION OF HERITAGE STAFF FOR RECEIVING THE SOCIETY OF CALINFORNIA ARCHIVISTS ARCHIVES APPRECIATION AWARD: Jane Newell and Nichole Grimes were recognized for receiving the Archives Appreciation Award by California Archivists for the Spanish Flu guided tours at Founders’ Park. Special thanks to David Laviguer for nominating them for the award. The Board also recognized Heritage Services Staff for the Mother Colony House 165th Anniversary Celebration. B.MAKERSPACE AND RECORDING STUDIO AT HASKETT LIBRARY: Audrey presented tentative plans for a Makerspace and Recording Studio at Haskett Library. Partial funding will be provided by the Anaheim Public Library Foundation and the Samueli Foundation. Additional funding sources are being pursued. V.INFORMATION A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: There will be a presentation on the Central Library Green Space at the July Library Board Meeting. The Euclid Library outdoor programming space is in construction. B.BUDGET: At the Budget Workshop, the City Council requested budget figures to expand library hours. Library staff is working on providing these budget figures that will include full-time staffing needed to expand Library hours based on different scenarios. VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS A.STATISTICS: None. B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: Scott Fretwell is conducting a Diversity Audit on APL’s library materials collection. C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: The Board recognized Ginny Gardner for her years of service on the Anaheim Public Library Foundation Board. Linda recognized the impressive amount of volunteer hours by the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library. VII.BOARD ITEMS MEMBER ROSE CHEN: Enjoyed the Mother Colony House 165th Anniversary and enjoyed seeing families visiting Anaheim’s historical properties. VICE CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Requested to revisit the Anaheim Trivia Night program. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting June 13, 2022 Page 3 CHAIR LAVIGUER: Invited the Library Board to attend the Library Foundation meeting to honor Ginny Gardener on her retirement from the Anaheim Public Library Foundation. VIII.MISCELLANEOUS A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be July 11, 2022, at the Central Library. B.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Laviguer adjourned the meeting at 5:06 p.m.
