SANTA ANA CANYON RD., ANAHEIM, CA 92808 October 27, 2021 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: Lynn Cudd, Chair Sjany Larson-Cash, Director Nichole Rupp, Vice Chair Anaheim Sporn, Community Services Manager Ryan Balius JJ Jimenez, Interim Parks Manager James Cook Eleanor Granflor, Senior Secretary Tony Flores Yogesh Shah COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: John Elwell A G E N D A A C T I O N T A K E N 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Cudd called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice Chair Rupp led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: None. 4. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: Chair Cudd reported Pamela Galera has left the City of Anaheim to become the new Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Riverside, and JJ Jimenez will be the Interim Parks Manager. Chair Cudd also reported Commissioner Elwell has resigned from the Commission. 5. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Cudd presented the September 22, 2021 minutes to the Commissioners for changes or corrections. Commissioner Cook made a motion to accept the minutes as amended, seconded by Vice Chair Rupp. The motion was approved with five votes in favor; Chair Cudd accepted the minutes. 6. REPORTS a) Recreation, Human and Neighborhood Services Activity Report – August/September: Anaheim Sporn presented the report and highlighted the Youth Programs, Day Camps, Tiny Tots Academy, rentals at the community centers, Youth Basketball and youth sports clinics held at East Anaheim Gymnasium, Summer Nights Under the Stars series at Pearson Park Amphitheatre, Center Gallery, OCNC programs, food distributions and food pantry programs, the VolunTEEN Program, contract classes and aquatics, Active Older Adult Programs, vaccination clinics, community workshops, Teen Centers, S.T.A.R.S. Program, Project S.A.Y., Neighborhood & Community Outreach, and District Community meetings. Questions were answered regarding the Pearson Park Pool, pickle ball courts and possible tournament events, district community meetings, and the Guide Dogs for the Blind training. Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes October 27, 2021 Page 2 2 b) Park Ranger Report – September: Anaheim Sporn presented the report and highlighted the number of patrols, patrons, and public contacts made by Park Rangers. There was a slight decrease in curfew and alcohol contacts and an increase in park patrols, patrons, public contacts. The Park Rangers continue to work with parks staff, other departments and Lyons Security to patrol the parks. Questions were answered regarding the new statistic “Public Substance Abuse”. c) Parks Capital Project Progress Report: JJ Jimenez presented the report and highlighted Aloe Promenade, Brookhurst Teen Center, Center Greens, River Walk, and the St. Jude Medical Clinic. Questions were answered regarding the River Walk and the Engineering Feasibility Study. 7. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Sjany Larson-Cash reported Boysen Park has been temporarily closed due to a soil analysis being administered throughout the park. Anaheim Sporn reported the Fall Festival activities are occurring all month long and the scavenger hunt will take place on October 30th. The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) event will be transitioned into a neighborhood event on October 29th where community altars can be put together by the residents and volunteers. Lynn Cudd reported the Bower Museum has setup a Day of the Dead exhibit. 8. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Cudd adjourned the meeting at 6:54 p.m.
