A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ANAHEIM URGING BOTH THE GOVERNOR
AND LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
TO ENACT AND APPROVE LEGISLATION RESTRICT-
ING THE SALE, DISTRIBUTION AND EXHIBITION
OF PORNOGRAPHY AND OBSCENE MATERIAL TO
PERSONS UNDER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE.
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of the United States has
upheld the validity of laws and ordinances by which state and
local governments have sought to protect the youth of our
society against the dissemination of pornographic and obscene
material; and
WHEREAS, the sale and distribution of pornographic
and obscene materials to our youth has reached alarming
proportions in the State of California; and
WHEREAS, so widespread is the sale and distribution
of obscene and pornographic material within the state, that
this state has become known as a leading center for the
distribution of smut; and
WHEREAS, such obscene and pornographic material is
frequently displayed on magazine and newstands frequented by
persons under the age of eighteen years, which material is
unsuitable for such young' persons; and
WHEREAS, the Attorney General of the, State of
California has heretofore attempted,to sponsor legislation
which would curb and prevent theAdLstributiori, and exhibition
of obscene and pornographic material to minors, which
legislation has heretofore failed to be approved by the
California Legislature.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that it hereby requests the Legislature
and the Governor of the State of California to immediately
enact, and approve appropriate legislation to control and
prohibit the sale, distribution and exhibition of obscene and
pornographic material to minors under the age of eighteen years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Anaheim requests the City Clerk to distribute copies
of this resolution to the Office of the Governor of the State
of California, the members of the State Legislature from
Orange County, the Attorney General of the State of California,
the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the League of California
Cities, and the Orange County Division of the League of
California Cities.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and signed by
