Broadway4:30 p.m. Anaheim, CA 92805 CALL TO ORDER – The agenda having been posted on January 4, 2024, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Board Chair Linda Newby at 4:30 p.m. PRESENT:Rose Chen, Michelle Dang, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia STAFF:Audrey A. Lujan - City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx – PT Management Assistant I.INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A.FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends will vote on their 2024budget at their January meeting. Their book sale made $323.50 which is one of their best December sales to date. The next sale is January 19, 2024. The Friends are planning to attend the APL Foundation’s Mystery Authors Luncheon in March. B.FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Their next meeting is January 19, 2024, and their flash sale is January 23-24, 2024 C.ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: Linda encouraged her fellow Library Board Members to attend the Foundation’s Mystery Authors Luncheon. D.COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 13, 2023 MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III.UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A.LIBRARY BOARD PRESENTATION TO CITY COUNCIL: The Library Board Presentation to City Council is tentatively scheduled for March 26, 2024. A draft of the presentation will be reviewed by the Library Board at the next Library Board meeting. IV.NEW BUSINESS: A.LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING SCHEDULE: MOTION: That the Library Board approve the Library Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule for 2024 as presented. M/S: RC/JF 5 ayes. ITEM # 01 Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting January 8, 2024 Page 2 B.LIBRARY BOARD AD IN ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION MYSTERY AUTHORS LUNCHEON PROGRAM: The Library Board will sponsor the inside cover ad in the Mystery Authors Luncheon Program. V.INFORMATION A.CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: th Anaheim Public Library was awarded the Orange County Business Council 13 Annual ‘Turning Red Tape Into Red Carpet award for the Public-Private Partnership Award for the ’ 2022Foster Youth Initiative. Audrey thanked the Board for serving as judges for the Creative Writing Project. Audrey was selected by Senator Josh Newman as Citizen of the Month. The Library is beginning an Accessibility and Communication Initiative to assist patrons who are deaf and hard of hearing. Staff is preparing a proposal to the Library Board for the elimination of overdue book fines and DVD rental fees. The Library is planning an Amnesty Day for patrons who have lost library materials. B.BUDGET: Planning is underway for the Fiscal Year 2024/25 budget year. VI.ACTIVITY REPORTS A.STATISTICS: None. B.ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C.MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None. VII.BOARD ITEMS MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Requested status of the Poet Laureate committee. MEMBER MICHELLE DANG: None. MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: Requested to know the status of the Library App and if the Library holds free shredding events for the public. She suggested making the Library website easier to find on the City of Anaheim’s website homepage. MEMBER ROSE CHEN: Enjoys serving as a judge for the Creative Writing Project. She noted that she was unable to log in from outside of the country during her vacation. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting January 8, 2024 Page 3 CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Enjoyed reading the activity reports and is very impressed with the creative programming. Particularly the Wildlife Wednesdays program at East Anaheim Library. She also requested to know if it was possible to add information on the check-out receipt regarding how to make a book recommendation. VIII.MISCELLANEOUS A.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be February 12, 2024, at the Central Library. B.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:56 p.m.
