Subject: Agenda Item 9 – Appointment of Interim Chief of Police
Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
On behalf of the Anaheim Police Association, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Chief Rick
Armendariz for his dedicated service to both the Anaheim Police Department and the City of
Anaheim. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
We are especially appreciative of Chief Armendariz for stepping in as Interim Chief during this
transitional period as the city begins its search for new leadership at the Police Department. Anaheim
is a global destination with a significant responsibility to both its residents and its visitors.
The men and women of the Anaheim Police Association strongly urge the city to take a proactive,
comprehensive, and timely approach in selecting the next Chief of Police. It is vital that the incoming
administration is given the opportunity to implement its vision and priorities for the future of the
department.
We are on the verge of a historic opportunity to reinvest in this City, at a time when residents and our
business community continue to tell us that protecting public safety is their top priority. As soon as
the next Chief is selected, our members look forward to working with that individual to envision and
then implement a forward-looking Police Department that brings the best staffing, personnel,
facilities, and equipment to serve our community.
Sincerely,
Gaby Sutter
