Dear Neighbor,
This week in Washington I fought to represent all who call Orange County home. I voted against an
unacceptable Republican spending bill that provides another $70 billion to the Department of
Homeland Security, discussed what Congress can do to prevent sports fans from being overcharged
for watching their favorite teams, and worked across the aisle on bipartisan bills to deliver for Orange
County.
OPPOSING ANOTHER BLANK CHECK FOR ICE
This week, I voted against the Republican reconciliation bill, which provides another $70 billion for the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—including $38.5 billion for Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) and $26 billion for Customs and Border Protection. Before casting my vote, I
submitted three common-sense amendments to prevent DHS and ICE from harming our public safety
and targeting contributing members of our community. However, Republicans struck down all three
of these amendments.
These amendments would have protected contributing members of our community from immigration
enforcement, including veterans, people who witness or report a crime, and Vietnamese refugees
1
who came to the U.S. before 1995 and have earned the right to call America home. People who
strengthen our community and make it better should not have to fear deportation.

PROTECTING OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES
This week, I joined my Democratic colleagues on the Homeland Security Committee at a forum
examining how this administration has expanded government surveillance of U.S. citizens. We in this
country have long valued our freedom and privacy, unlike any other country in the world, but we no
longer have that. I will continue to fight for safeguards to protect our civil liberties.
The forum can be viewed HERE.

WORKING ACROSS THE AISLE
This week, I worked with my colleagues across the political spectrum to deliver real solutions for
everyday Americans. I introduced the Build American Efficiency Act, which will help speed up the
building of new homes by cutting red tape and making it easier for builders to comply with federal
requirements.
I also joined my colleagues in introducing the Great American Outdoors Act 250, which will make
improvements to our national parks and public lands so more people can benefit from the beautiful
lands our nation has to offer.
I remain committed to working with my colleagues across the aisle to deliver real results for Orange
County and the rest of the country.
HONORING OUR SERVICE MEMBERS
As we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, we honor the enduring sacrifices of our service members
who made our freedom possible. Please share a photo and tribute of a loved one who has served our
nation HERE. These special commemorations will be shared on my social media pages.
The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, June 26, 2026.

IMPROVING SPORTS BROADCASTING
This week, I spoke with witnesses at a hearing on the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 and its effects
on the modern broadcast market for major sports leagues. I worked closely with the committee to
guarantee that after today, we will be one step closer to making sure sports fans can watch their
favorite teams at a reasonable price.

Dear Neighbor,
What motivates me every day to work hard for our district is simple: community. The people of
Orange County are the reason I continue to push forward, and it’s your support and trust that drive
everything I do.
This week, I am proud to share moments that reflect the strength of our community – from uplifting
the next generation who will shape our future, to honoring the residents whose lifelong contributions
continue to inspire us. Together, these connections are what make our district so special!
SENIOR APPRECIATION EVENT
In honor of the older adults in the 46th Congressional District, I was proud to host a Senior
Appreciation Event. We had a wonderful time celebrating our amazing community, connecting with
residents, and listening to their concerns.
I was joined by the Council on Aging Southern California, who shared helpful resources to keep our
seniors informed and supported. We also enjoyed activities together in the Center Greens Butterfly
Garden.

BIG CHECK FOR A BIGGER FUTURE
I was proud to secure $1,031,000 in federal funding for Santa Ana College’s Criminal Justice
Academies. This funding will improve regional training programs and upgrade facilities, ensuring we
are preparing for the next generation of correctional and peace officers in Orange County.
My commitment to strong law enforcement training, public safety education, and student success
will not stop here. By supporting our students today, we are helping build safer communities for
tomorrow.

CHANGES TO CALFRESH
If you receive CalFresh benefits, new changes caused by H.R. 1 could affect your eligibility. Now,
adults ages 18-64 must complete 20 hours of qualifying work per week OR 80 hours per month to
keep benefits, but several exemptions apply. This means that if you do not meet the new work and/or
community engagement requirements, it will directly impact your ability to receive benefits.
Click here to see more information on the new policies and eligibility. If you have questions or need
assistance, please call my office at 714-559-6190.
