Honorable Mayor and City Council, According to AI today: Over the past decade (roughly 2016 to 2026), the population of Anaheim has experienced a slight overall decline and stabilization, contrasting with its rapid growth in earlier decades. Here is how the trend breaks down:  Mid-2010s Peak: Around 2016 to 2017, Anaheim's population peaked at roughly 350,000 to 352,000 residents.  The 2020 Census: By the official 2020 Census, the population was recorded at 346,824.  Recent Years: Following 2020, the population experienced a minor downward trend and leveled off. As of recent 2024–2026 data and estimates, the population stands at approximately 340,000 to 344,500. Overall, Anaheim's population has decreased by roughly 2% to 3% over the last 10 years, shifting from a period of steady growth into a phase of modest decline and stabilization. In my opinion, the State of California has gone too far in usurping the power of local government. I strongly urge you to stand your ground for the betterment of Anaheim's communities and not be influenced by promises of State grant monies by passing the Prohousing Designation agreement July 14. I believe Anaheim residents will experience a decline in public safety and poorer quality of life if Anaheim commits to this agreement. Instead, be proactive and consider:  Already approved affordable housing projects that meet the State's goals for cities.  The effects of those projects with reduced, nonexistent parking space requirements on quality of life for everyone.  Increased traffic that reduces quality of life for everyone.  Housing density that puts all residents in danger for an untested "Know:Your Way" Evacuation plan, especially in "Very High Fire Risk" areas. We don't want to be the next Pacific Palisades, Altadena, or Paradise casualties (or Cypress' Hazardous Waste evacuation scare). 1 We look to our local leaders, who know and appreciate Anaheim as we do, to put the needs and concerns of Anaheim's current residents ahead of Sacramento's goals.
