censoring users,” said Ari Cohn, free-speech counsel at Tech Freedom. “These
are things that the government could never legislate. The government could not
set a bedtime for the 1st Amendment or limit free speech to two hours a day.”

Although children are more vulnerable than adults, they have the same right to
free expression, he said. Efforts to protect them will inevitably spill into
censorship of all users — now on the orders of the government.

We did it.
Today, Governor Newsom signed a major
package of legislation into law to
strengthen protections for children and
families in the digital world, including all
four of MAMA’s California priority bills.
This is a tremendous victory, and you helped
make it happen.
Throughout this legislative session, MAMA
members contacted lawmakers, responded
to action alerts, reached out to the Governor,
shared their experiences, and made sure
parents had a powerful voice when decisions
affecting our children were being made. As a
result of your actions, our four priority bills
are now law.
AB 2: Creates greater accountability for large social media platforms when a failure to exercise ordinary
care or skill causes injury to a child.
AB 1709: Establishes additional protections aimed at creating safer social media experiences for young
people.
AB 2246: Strengthens California’s Age-Appropriate Design Code framework and protections against risks
children face when using online products and services.
SB 1119 (Adam’s Law): Establishes new safeguards for children interacting with AI companion chatbots.
Today is about more than a set of bills. It is proof of what happens when parents organize and use their collective
voice.
These victories show the power of our grassroots movement in action. California MAMA members organized,
spoke up, and helped turn the concerns families experience every day into meaningful protections for
children.
Thank you for every email, phone call, meeting, story shared, and moment you showed up. Today's victory belongs
to you.
Let's celebrate what we have accomplished together. And let's keep building toward a world where every child has
the freedom to experience a healthy childhood and where technology serves children and families, not the other
way around.
