I'm writing as a lifelong Anaheim Hills resident. I'm EXTREMELY concerned about the Deer Canyon development. I was honestly hoping that you'd listen to residents and it wouldn't be approved. I live next to Eucalyptus Park. I've seen Santa Ana Canyon Rd. during a fire evacuation. It's a parking lot. The proposed exits on your egress plan will NOT work. How do I know? Because those supposed exits have always been there and despite that, people still couldn't evacuate in a timely fashion during the Canyon Fires--and that was with fewer cars on the road than you are currently proposing, and the wind was moving northeast. What will happen if the hills above us ignite and the wind moves northwest? Santa Ana Canyon Rd. already experiences significant daily traffic due to several schools between Imperial Hwy and Deer Canyon, as well as people circumventing traffic on the 91. I do not see how you can safely add an additional 450 to 1000 cars on that same road, especially if those new 450 families need to evacuate during an emergency. Anaheim Hills has similar fire risks to the Palisades and Altadena. Those communities had been there for over 100 years and disappeared overnight. What should happen when our luck runs out like theirs did? Why is it that you're choosing to build what can only be described as "UN-affordable housing" instead of ensuring the safety of Anaheim Hills residents? Did those fires not teach you anything? That housing development will, in NO WAY, eliminate homelessness--and you know that. This is 100% about MONEY. I also want you to think about why so many people died in the Camp Fire: Residents could not escape. City planners and local officials for Paradise and Concow FAILED to plan for the massive scale of the evacuation--DESPITE WARNING. Will you listen to the warning? You are receiving it now. Sincerely, Jennifer Dart 1
