Golf 2009/12/03GOLF COMMISSION MINUTES December 3, 2009 — 5:00 p.m. Anaheim Hills Golf Course — Clubhouse Board Room COMMISSIONERS PRESENT CITY STAFF PRESENT VALLEY CREST PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER Chairman Skip Keys Vice Chairman Don Heinbuch Commissioner Patty Gaby Commissioner John McCulloch Commissioner Bud Schultz Michael Lautenbach, Dave Johansen, Bob Johns, and Eleanor Granflor Kevin Neal, Regional Golf Course Superintendent Chairman Keys called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. PUBLIC COMMENTS Joe Bobrick (Treasurer) and Frank Raduziner (Tournaments), members of the Anaheim Hills Golf Club attended the meeting. Mr. Bobrick and Mr. Raduzin provided information regarding a member who did not receive the green fee discount for club members. The golf shop staff did not allow the member discount as his name was not on the updated list of paid members. This list is provided to the golf staff by the Anaheim Hills Golf Club. Commissioner Schultz stated staff should provide better customer support and requested that a letter be sent to member who was declined the club member discount. Michael Lautenbach stated a letter will be sent to the member. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Commissioner Schultz made a Motion to approve the October 22, 2009 Minutes. Motion was seconded by Chairman Keys. Motion passed. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. Golf Superintendent Michael Lautenbach presented his report and answered questions. Michael Lautenbach stated the Agreement with the new point -of -sale provider, Active Golf Network, has been signed by the City and will be sent to the company. Michael stated the system will be installed towards the end of January - early February. Commissioner Schultz questioned clarification on the stored value cards /club scrip for golf clubs. Bob Johns stated the value cards /club scrip will be handled similar to the current process. Michael Lautenbach stated he will look into this. Chairman Keys questioned if the point -of -sale system is custom built for our golf courses. Michael Lautenbach stated the software is preexisting and will transfer existing data from the old system to the new system. Michael Lautenbach stated the installation of the 40 -foot fence at Dad Miller Golf Course will begin after the holidays. ITEM NO. 01 Golf Commission Minutes December 3, 2009 Page Two Michael Lautenbach stated Golf staff is working with the food & beverage contractor at Anaheim Hills Golf Course on an Event Coordinator Open House to showcase our tournament and banquet services. Michael stated key contacts will be invited and the event will take place on April 19, 2010. B. Golf Course Superintendent Dave Johansen presented his report and answered questions. Commissioner Schultz stated the greens have improved significantly and are in good condition. Vice Chairman Heinbuch questioned why there is no cart path by the 5 t " green between hole #1 and hole #5 at Dad Miller Golf Course. The turf is worn out due to golf cart traffic. Michael Lautenbach stated since Dad Miller is mostly a walking golf course, cart paths were kept to a minimum. C. Director of Golf Bob Johns presented his report and answered questions. FINANCIAL REPORT Michael Lautenbach stated the economy continues to have a negative impact on golf. OLD BUSINESS A. Golf Course Improvement Update Michael Lautenbach stated the broken concrete near the first tee towards the driving range was fixed and the cover of a sprinkler box was replaced near the second fairway at Anaheim Hills Golf Course. NEW BUSINESS A. None to report. ADJOURNMENT Vice Chairman Heinbuch made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Gaby, to adjourn the meeting to January 28, 2010 at 5:00 p.m., at Anaheim Hills Golf Course, Clubhouse Board Room. The Motion passed. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
